Job Duties, including but not limited to:

• Provide clinical support for patients as directed by the Flight Commander.  Counsel patients not at nutritional risk concerning nutrition concepts and desired change in eating habits.  Under direction of the dietitian, instruct patients and their families on prescribed diets including low sodium, weight reduction, prenatal, dental liquid, low fat, low residue, low fiber, high fiber, cardiac, fat controlled, and other authorized diets
• Provide clinical support for patients as directed by the Flight Commander.  Counsel patients not at nutritional risk concerning nutrition concepts and desired change in eating habits.  Under direction of the dietitian, instruct patients and their families on prescribed diets including low sodium, weight reduction, prenatal, dental liquid, low fat, low residue, low fiber, high fiber, cardiac, fat controlled, and other authorized diets
• Will conduct nutrition screening (either manually or automated) of patients upon admission to determine nutrition risk and level of care required; collect nutritionally relevant data, e.g., medication, clinical symptoms, laboratory values, dietary history, anthropometrics, etc., from the medical record consistent with screening and assessment guidelines for all age specific groups from infants to geriatrics; and communicate findings to the clinical dietitian.  Obtain adequate information in order to identify nutrition-related problems or uncomplicated instances of common conditions or population based problems, i.e. health promotion/disease prevention activities. (Nutrition assessment)  Identify and describe an actual occurrence, risk of, or potential for developing a nutritional problem for uncomplicated instances of common conditions in individuals and population based problems.
• Calculate nutrient and energy intake values and assist in evaluating data from patient’s dietary history.
• Monitor, evaluate and document patient’s adherence/acceptance/tolerance of nutritional care/food intake and make appropriate recommendations.  Consult the appropriate dietitian concerning unusual nutritional problems of patients and take appropriate action if necessary.  Evaluate and monitor the effectiveness and outcome of nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy interventions and answer or refer questions regarding patients’ nutritional care to the clinical dietitian.  Participate in the selection, monitoring, and evaluation of standard enteral nutrition regimens, i.e. in a medically stable patient to meet nutritional requirements where recommendations/adjustments involve primarily macronutrients and implement transition feeding plans.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:  Completion of the following:

• Must achieve one of the following:
  • Completed a Dietetic Technician Program accredited/approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND®) of the AND; successfully completed the Registration Examination for Dietetic Technicians; and accrued 50 current hours of approved continuing professional education every five years.
  • Completed the minimum of a baccalaureate degree granted by a U.S. regionally accredited college or university, or foreign equivalent; met current academic requirements (Didactic Program in Dietetics) as accredited/approved by ACEND®; completed a supervised practice program under the auspices of a Dietetic Technician Program as accredited/approved by ACEND®; successfully completed the Registration Examination for Dietetic Technicians; and accrued 50 current hours of approved continuing professional education every five years.

Experience:  Candidates must have the following experience:

• Previous experience as Dietitian Technician is preferred

Security:

• National Background Investigation
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from the site

License/Certification and Training:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from The American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR) preferred

Schedule:

• Varied Shift to include Weekends
• 8-Hour Shifts
